I had a similar reaction when I read the book. It's awful, hyperbolic pop-scholarship pablum, and that really irritates me when the subject is a pet interest of mine. The only redeeming feature is that the author uses the phrase "lucky pierre" in a caption for one of the illustrations and, because I am an immature ass, that made me giggle endlessly.
