I had a similar situation when I was rock-climbing in West Viginia as a teenager and saw a guy who was free-climbing (i.e. not using safety gear) lose his grip about 50 feet up, call for help, fall and then bounce sickeningly. His own stupid choice, but I couldn't help but feel awful.

Anyway, I saw Decemberists last night in NYC. They put on a great show. Most of the songs were from their new album, which I'd gotten shortly after it came out. His mother was in the audience, which added another dimesion to "Cautionary Tale" and "I Was Meant for the Stage" as encore songs. And for a NYC audience, everyone was pretty chill and receptive to the earnest gimmickiness (sing alongs, acrobatic re-enactment of the charge of the light brigade, etc.). Also, most blatantly open rolling/smoking of joints at a concert I've been at since I saw DJ Shadow a few years ago.
